Reaching Out Locally

Continuing on the success of Talk to your MP - Ottawa, Canadian Healthy Ocean Network (CHONe) scientists reached out to local Members of Parliament (MP). Local MP's were invited to the Dalhousie University and Memorial University to meet with CHONe researchers and students to learn about  their research. Researchers and students highlighted some of the key findings and importance of their research, and the importance of ocean health to Canadians. While MP's asked questions in return.  

NDP Fisheries and Oceans Critic, Robert Chisholm

January 22, 2013

  • 6 researchers and 12 graduate students shared their knowledge and expertise about oceans science with NDP Fisheries and Oceans Critic, Robert Chisholm at Dalhousie University. Robert was particularly interested in the Arctic, marine protected areas (MPAs), aquaculture, and genetics. 
  • Following-up on this meeting, Anna Metaxas and Isabelle Cote provided advice on Marine Protected Areas in Canada, and Jon Grant provided further advice on aquaculture in Atlantic Canada.

  • Following-up on previous discussions, Philippe Archambault and Kim Juniper shared their knowledge and expertise of the Arctic with Robert Chisholm.

  • 13 CHONe scientists shared their knowledge and expertise, and talked ocean science with NDP MPs, Ryan Cleary and Jack Harris at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
